Vetusta Monumenta 6 (1885): pls. XLI and XLII. Alexander Nesbitt, 'Copies from Drawings Preserved in the Sacristy of St Peter's at Rome, Representing the Chair of St Peter, with Observations'. This article describes the chair and the differences between this etching by Scardevelli and the drawing by Carlo Fontana. The ivory plaques on the front of the seat, shown in this etching, are shown to be a later addition (though of Byzantine origin), and Nesbitt discusses the construction and date of the chair based on the style of original applied ivory ornament which he ascribes to the 8th century onwards.
