Another ancient object preserved at Chilton Polden, and found at King's Sedgemoor, near Somerton, a locality where numerous Roman remains have been brought to light, is the piece of bone here represented, (orig. size) on which is scored the name APRILIS. It is evidently the moiety of the handle of a knife or tool used by some Roman artificer; and the name, it may interest some readers of the Journal to be reminded, occurs as a potter's mark on mortaria found in London, as also on 'Samian' ware.
