A manuscript account by Canon Samuel Lysons of the early life of Henry VIII and the incident whereby his life was saved at the Battle of the Spurs 1513 by three Gloucestershire yeomen including Martin Handeman and Master Guy Hooke. As a reward Master Hooke (Lysons ancestor) requested to be made a gentleman with arms and have transferred to him the estate of Crook. Includes detailed account of the battle and the incident itself which was quoted in Fosbrooke’s Gloucestershire but not verified.
