Scope and content
MS volume, described by Willetts as 'An ordinary of arms' (Catalogue of the Manuscripts in the Society of Antiquaries of London (2000), p 380). It contains ruled grids on each page, designed for four rows of five coats of arms with tricks, although relatively few were entered. An index at the end of the volume, in several hands, includes a heading after letter P ‘Alphabettica huius libri ordinariorum’.

A note on the front flyleaf by HS London states ‘The original entries are, I think, in the hand of Nicholas Charles [Lancaster Herald, d.1613], but there are many added by other hands, including some by Peter le Neve [Norroy, d.1729]’.
A note inside the back cover, possibly by HS London: ‘Belonged to Peter le Neve. See his handwriting fols 11, 14, 43 etc, 12’.

Archival history
Part of the HS London Bequest, 1959. A note inside the back cover ‘From A.P. Playfair, Holford Villa, Holford Square, W.C.1. 10 May 1946. £2’, apparently records HSL’s acquisition of the volume.
