Folder of loose papers relating to the history of altars, divided by Century. There are notes on the use of 'altar' vs 'table' historically, as well as information on the eating styles and table shapes used in biblical times.There are also descriptions and histories of specific altars, including St. Peter's Altar, Rome, as well as more general histories including primitive altars and churches, the use of tomb altars and the development of the positioning of the clergy and congregation in relation to the altar as time has gone one. There is also discussion on the adoption of Roman and Egyptian altars for later use by Christians and some floor plans and sketches are included.
