Scope and content
Hardback notebook containing a number of printed images depicting altars, from illuminated manuscripts as well as medieval paintings and books of hours, with descriptions of the elements visible for some of them. They include continental and English depictions, with a number of interpretations of the sacrifice of Issac and the martyrdom of St. Thomas Beckett, including a copy of the image produced by Matthew Paris, believed to be one of the first to depict the scene.
