Includes at top five letters to J A Knowles from W. Lowther Clarke, the editorial secretary of the SPCK and the Sheldon Press, one dated 21 July 1936 concerning a draft agreement for JAK’s book Essays in the History of the York School of Glass Painting, giving proposed publication date, proposed subscription and bookseller prices, a statement of the rate for royalties, and a request for suggestions for reviewers. The second, dated 22 January 1936, with revised details about the length of the book, its cost, its illustrations, its binding, and announcing a cut in royalties offered. The third, dated 29 October 1935, concerns the financial proposals and estimates for the book. The fourth, dated 7 November 1935, with various editorial points about the text (including the removal of the word “catholic” as it might offend Anglicans). The fifth, dated 23 April 1929, from David Higham of Curtis Brown Ltd concerning potential publishers of J A Knowles’s book, including at length what the OUP have said.
