Section of the Sir Hugh Hastyngs brass (1347) from Esling Church, Norfolk, showing weeper Ralph de Stafford. Three of the weepers/mourners, the Earls of Lancaster and Warwick, and Lord Stafford, each carries a lance with a pennon with a St. George's cross. Together with the King himself, they were founder members of the Order of the Garter, which was closely associated with St. George.
