Scope and content
A 'New, Revised and Enlarged Edition' of Fryer's original paper presented to the Society of Antiquaries in 1908, which was later published in volume LXI of Archaeologia (pages 448-552). The book is divided into three parts: an introductory section, followed by effigies known before the Black Death and the revival of wooden effigies in the 16th and 17th centuries. Photographs of the discussed effigies accompany the text.
