Scope and content
Single bound volume of handwritten notes relating to monumental brasses of the City of London and Middlesex. The notes for the City of London and for Middlesex are arranged separately (previously bound separately) in alphabetical order of place names, with forewords and indices with numbered pages. Generally includes a description of the brass, its location, size and inscription.

City of London notes are handwritten with separately adhered drawings, sketches and printed plates and an article from The City Press 1891. The Appendix comprises notes on the Brasses in the old cathedral of St Pauls taken from a paper by RAS Macalister published in the Cambridge University Association of Brass collectors (June 1893). The Supplement comprises notes on Brasses in the destroyed Church of Austin Friars taken from a paper by F A Greenhill in volume LXIX of the Transactions of the Monumental Brass Society, December 1949.

The Middlesex notes are handwritten with separately adhered drawings, rubbings and printed plates and compiled from Mill Stephenson’s “ A List of the Monumental Brasses of the British Isles” and other sources. Also includes separate notes and appendices on Sir Arthur Gorges, Chelsea Old Church, Robert Hawley, Westminster Abbey and others.
