'A History of the life and achievements of Ivor ap Llewelin, alias Ivor Hael, Lord of Bassaleg & c in the 14th century' by Henry Evans (alias 'H. Ddu o Ddyfed'); 10 March 1839 (fol. v verso). An essay originally written in Welsh for a competition set by Wentloog Castletown Cambrian Society. Expanded and translated at the request of Octavius Morgan of Tredegar (author's note, fol. v), whose critical comments are at fols. ii verso (dated 1876), 8a, 9a, 9b, 17a.
Ifor ap Llewelin, known as Ivor Hael, was the patron of Dafydd ap Gwilym; many extracts from the latter's poems (Welsh, with translations) are quoted. A letter, 18 Jan. 1837 (fols. iii-iv) from the author to Charles Morgan Robinson Morgan, MP (1st Baron Tredegar, 1859), gives further background information.
