Scope and content
Title page reads "Drawings of Gothic tiles by Alwyne, Bishop of Ely from 1886 to 1906." Sketchbook contains miniature, intricately-detailed sketches of tiles, drawn first in graphite and then hand-coloured with brownish-red ink. The designs are traced and captioned in black ink. The designs, numbered by Compton, refer to an index of 244 entries on the last two pages of the book .
The book is paginated to p. 111, with the remaining pages left blank. The index lists in order the tile number, the site, 'tracing by', and page number.
