The Congress of Archaeological Societies (CAS) in union with SA was established after a conference at Burlington House in 1888. The first annual congress was held in 1889; PSA and 'Ass. Sec. SA acted as President and Secretary of the Congress for much of its existence. The Congress was dissolved in 1945 and was superseded by the Council for British Archaeology founded in 1944.
