Scope and content
This is Volume 1 (A-F) of 4 volumes titled Archaic Glossary, which appear to be Way's handwritten notes on Wynken de Worde's 1515 Vulgaria Stanbrigi, an English/Latin vocabulary by John Stanbridge and the Vulgaria of Robert Whittinton (see Early English Text Society (Series) 187); and Wynken de Worde's sixteenth century editions of Galfridus Garmmaticus/Geoffrey the Grammarian's (1440) Promptorium parvulorum (the first English-Latin dictionary); in preparation for Way's edition of Promptorium parvulorum sive clericorum published by the Camden Society in 3 volumes 1843-1865 (see Works of the Camden Society 25, 54 & 89). Volume 1 contains leaves 1-125 with significant insertion of additional loose notes and correspondence, including 3 letters from Sir Frederick Madden FRS (1801-1873) 19 Feb 1845, 8 Jan 1862 & 16 Nov 1864 inserted in the front of the notebook.
