The following Fellow was admitted to the Society: John Parish
Mr. Stone exhibited a curious sword which formerly belonged to Spinola, General of the Spanish Armies; includes observations for the compartments and embossments of the steel mount, the scabbard and the blade; numerous references to David and his journey from the Bible, and Roman mythological figures (Cupid, Venus, Juno etc.).
Samuel Pegge’s letters on considering the abbreviations behind Roman words, MEI being an abbreviation for Memoria (MEM); interpretation justified by the existence of the Legio Sexta (Sixth Legion).
Pegge’s further observations on a Pig of Lead found in Derbyshire, displaying Roman inscriptions relating to the Roman Emperor Hadrian; includes analysis regarding appearance, weight and commercial significance. Ceangi young men employed in the summer feeding of cattle, with the Coristani in particular employing theirs in Derbyshire; considerations as to whether the lead pigs were Saxon Originals; further consideration for the continued usage of ancient lead-mines within Derbyshire; Fridder is the Saxon and German name for a cart load.
