Papers of Sir Edward Walker (1612-77), Garter 1645-77, Clerk of the Council to Charles II in exile, Secretary at War, 1656. Drafts and papers relating almost entirely to heraldic matters, bound in random order. Main topics are arrangements for funerals of nobility and other notable people, including that of Sir William Le Neve, August 1661 (fols. 58,144); attempts to control activities of the arms painters (see particularly fols. 14, 91, 119), and to exact fees on seals for Regimental commissions (fols. 106, 139); fees and dividends. Designs for the arms and banners of the Earl of Ossory, fols. 3,4. Note relating to the redemption of a pawned gold chain of the Marquess of Ormond, 25 Apr. 1660, fol. 80. Earlier heraldic material includes:- A note of fees paid for the funeral of Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, 10 Oct. 1588 (fol. 29); end of a document signed by heralds and pursuivants (William Camden, Clarenceux (d. 1623), Sir Richard St George, Norroy 1604, Sir Henry St George, Richmond 1616, Henry Chitting, Chester 1618, Philip Holland, Portcullis 1618/19, Samson Lennard, Bluemantle 1615/16, John Philipot, Rouge Dragon 1618), 1619-23, fol. 112; copy of a petition of heralds to Charles I with a note 'Att the Court att Greenwich', 2 June 1631, fol. 83; note of allowances granted to heralds and pursuivants in lieu of scarves, hats and feathers due to them at the installation of Prince Charles as Prince of Wales, 1638, fol. 60; and a view of funerals in the province of Clarenceux, 1567-1642, fols. 130-1.
