Medical and surgical collections of John Arderne including the 'Practica magistri Johannis Arderne de Newerk Cirurgici' (heading, fol. 36). See Ker, MMBL, I (1969), 300. Main text begins, without title, fol. 5, with a recipe for cancer 'Accipe anxungiam porci.'. Includes much relating to the treatment of fistula and a wide variety of recipes, e.g. a cure for rabies, fol. 57v, and ends with directions for catching birds, fol. 81. Dates 1349 to 1370 given for the Black Death, fol. 36. Many marginal drawings of instruments, plants, animals and nude human figures. Small initial, fol. 5. Marginal numbers, added slightly later, divide the text into 226 sections. BL Sloane MS 335 is a similar collection.
